Operations

Saturday overtime shift starts 3 October

The cabinet factory will run a Saturday morning shift from 3 October to 12 December to meet the pre-Christmas builder program. The shift is voluntary and rostered so that nobody works more than two Saturdays in a row. Put your name on the roster sheet in the lunchroom by 25 September. Fatigue rules apply and supervisors will be watching weekly hours.

Safety

Forearm guards now mandatory at the glass racks

Following a laceration at the Bayswater plant last week, cut-resistant forearm guards are mandatory for anyone racking, de-racking or carrying glass. New guards are in the glass plant office. Please inspect your gloves and guards before each shift and swap any that are cut or worn. Thank you to the worker who reported promptly and to the first aider who responded.

Compliance

Isocyanate health monitoring and fit testing

All spray booth operators must attend respirator fit testing and health monitoring with the occupational health provider on 24 September in the training room. Bring your respirator. Filter change dates are now recorded on the log in the booth and filters must be replaced on or before the date shown. Nobody sprays two-pack coatings without a current fit test.

Quality

Quality objectives: August results

Rework in August was 1.9 percent, call-backs were three, and complaints closed within ten days reached 88 percent. Two safety glass panels were held at final check for missing labels and relabelled before dispatch. Well done to the glass plant for catching them. The September focus is drawer and door alignment at installation.
